Double amputee covid19 changed her life forever

Donation protected
My name is Karley Kafer and I have known Julia my whole life. She has been a friend of my family's since before I was born. She knew my dad who passed away when I was a baby and was good friends with my sisters when I was born.

On May 22nd 2020 my friend Julia's life was changed forever. She woke up in the hospital not knowing what happened, where she was or what day it was. She was on a ventilator with a tube down her throat. The first thing she remembers is a nurse saying " It's so sad when their eyes are open and they know what is happening." She soon was able to be taken off the ventilator only to find out that she had been in a coma for 3 days and almost died. Covid19 and a severe blood infection had not only almost killed her, it had also taken part of her legs. One of the lesser known and incredibly serious symptoms of Coronavirus are blood clots. They are prevalent mostly in the 30-40 year old age range. She had so many blood clots in her legs along with an infection in her blood that the doctors had no choice but to amputate on both legs. One above the knee and one below. She spent 3 months in the hospital learning how to navigate life in a whole new way. Amazingly she kept a positive, upbeat, can do attitude the entire time, which has brought her to where she is now 5 months later.

Julia currently has one prosthetic. She is determined to walk and is anxiously awaiting the other prosthetic so she can begin physical therapy to learn how to do so. Her positivity throughout this ordeal is admirable. She has said numerous times that getting down and depressed will do absolutely nothing but set her back and she wants to get herself back to a point physically where she can tell her story and help people. Our family took her in and she is temporarily living with us. She needs help financially for numerous reasons. She is going to need new prosthetics, a wheelchair (she has a loaner right now) and even certain medical appointments, all of which are out of pocket. She also needs her own place to live and everything that goes along with it. She is basically starting life completely over with a handicap that requires a whole new way of living. Everything that she needs is quite costly and anything that she can put in savings to help her with all of these costs would be a life changer for her. Her savings as I write this is non existant. She puts on a positive front but I know deep down she is constantly worried about how she is going to be financially independent enough to live on her own. She has applied for disability and help with housing but those processes take quite sometime. Housing at least a year and disability takes about 3 months but will only be $700-$800 monthly which right now sounds amazing to her but in reality isn't much to live on with the cost of living in this state. Anything you can do to help will truly be life changing for her.

Julia is someone who puts others before herself and doesn't want to "burden" others with her problems.  She would give the shirt off her back to help anyone and wants to help people in any way she can. She has been through a horrific ordeal and has kept a smile on her face pretty much the entire time. Please help her in any way you can and please share this to as many people you can. She wants to bring awareness to her story so that people are aware that this can happen to anybody. She was completely unaware that she had Covid19. The only symptom she had was silently ravaging her body and almost killed her. She was lucky to have survived and she wants people to know about this. Pay attention to what is happening to your body and don't allow yourself to be another statistic of Coronavirus. Thank you to anybody who took the time to read this, donate and/or share. Any donation won't just be greatly appreciated, they will make Julia's new way of life just a little bit easier for her.

Thank you!
