Double ACL Surgery for Scarlett

Our Story

At the end of 2024, we noticed our sweet Scarlett was having some trouble getting around, so we decided to visit our local vet. Upon our first visit, they thought she had some arthritis and gave us medication to manage it, along with the option for an injection. At this time, Scarlett was still getting around pretty well but had her "bad days," which we expected as our pets got older.

As time passed, we noticed Scarlett was having more "bad days" and decided to make another vet appointment to move ahead with the injection. Around this same time, our eldest girl, Nala, began to limp in her back right leg. Since Nala is our oldest at 10 years old, she also had her "bad days," but we thought it would be best to get it checked out. We took both of our girls to the vet at the same time. Scarlett received her first injection, and we were hopeful. However, upon taking X-rays of Nala, the vet found bone cancer. We were devastated. As pet parents, we all know these days will come, but we never expect them until they’re here. The vet told us to spend our remaining time with Nala giving her as much love as we can, and that’s what we have been doing.

A few weeks passed, and Scarlett began to limp again, so we returned to the vet. At this appointment, our vet suggested X-rays. Unfortunately, the X-rays showed that Scarlett had torn both of her ACLs in her back legs. While trying to cope with the heartbreaking news of Nala’s cancer, we now faced the reality that Scarlett would need a $6,000 surgery. This has taken a real toll on our family.

My wife recently started working two jobs, and I work as a mail carrier, picking up overtime when I can. But it’s hard to find the motivation to work more when we want to spend as much time with Nala as possible. Life is so short, and time goes by so fast. My wife and I don’t have kids; we are pet parents, and we love all three of our girls dearly.

If you’ve read this far, thank you for taking the time to hear our story. We will continue to do whatever we can for our girls. We truly appreciate everyone who has been there for us during this hard journey and anyone who is willing to help.
