Why support us?

This short film is a majority female-led co-production between Mexico and the United States with a plot that explores abusive, interpersonal relationships. We hope to make lasting professional ties among crew members to promote female-led work in the film industry and bolster more film collaboration between Mexico and the U.S.

This project will be cathartic for anyone who’s had a toxic relationship, be it familial, romantic or platonic. While doing research for this short film, a psychologist mentioned that individuals with serious trauma and personality disorders do not often intend to cause harm; instead, their harmful behavior can be a response rooted in their struggle to preserve relationships that their condition makes difficult or impossible to sustain.

The Spanish title, Dos gotas de agua, translates to "two drops of water," and is used similarly to the English expression "two peas in a pod." The title implicates both characters in their “crimes” instead of victimizing one or the other; in this sense, both women consciously make choices that keep them in this unhealthy relationship. We hope the whole piece serves as a mirror to dynamics most audiences will be able to identify with.

Logline: Kennedy, a U.S. American newcomer to Mexico City, faces her past traumas of abuse through therapy while becoming emotionally involved with Itzel, her friend and new roommate. But in her search for healing, she finds herself trapped in another abusive cycle disguised as friendship.
