Dorrie's Broken Leg
Donation protected
Bryan is my neighbour, and Dorrie is his companion dog. He adopted her from an animal rescue eight months ago.
Sunday, July 15, was Dorrie's eleven-month birthday. It was a scorching hot day, so Bryan took her in his dinghy to a beach area where she could play fetch in the water. On one retrieval, an encounter with an unknown object or obstacle in the water broke her leg.
Bryan took Dorrie to a vet immediately. The vet put Dorrie's leg in a splint. He gave Bryan two options:
* Let it heal using the splint. The outcome will leave Dorrie with a limp and a weak leg that will likely break again.
* Mend the leg with pins, which requires surgery. The outcome will leave Dorrie's leg strong.
Dorrie is a sweet-natured dog. She loves people, and she obviously loves Bryan. They take several walks together every day, and they enjoy taking rides in the dinghy. Everything will change for both if Dorrie's leg fails to heal properly.
The initial vet visit cost $600. The surgery will cost $3500. There will be additional fees for medicine and follow-up appointments and care. Bryan is a former long haul truck driver but is currently living on EI. The cost is prohibitive for him.
We are seeking $5000. Donations of any size will be gratefully accepted. If donations exceed Dorrie's expenses, Bryan is committed to donating the excess to the local Humane Society.
Time is critical in this situation so Dorrie’s leg can be properly set.
Thank you in advance.
