Hello, we're raising money for Dorothy Tobe and Mike Rosseau. They inadvertently got caught up in a web of small town drama and pettiness. They purchased an old church building that set empty for 20 years. They had plans to fix it up, live in it and start a small business. It was zoned by Stafford County as residential, but the City of St. John Council overruled that and decided it is zoned commercial only. Wanting to live in a nice, quiet small town, Dorothy & Mike spent their life savings on this building, and do not have an option to go somewhere else. They were summoned to court and can be charged with violating the zoning law, which can come with $500 fine for every night they spend there, and can even involve jail time. They have a pre-trial date set for Sept. 13. They will have to hire a lawyer. This is all so wrong. St. John is better than this. We'd like to raise some money to help them with legal fees, fines, and housing expenses while they fight this terrible smalltown battle. Any amount is appreciated. Even if we raise more than they spend, it's the least we can do in St. John to make up for the unfair and cruel way in which they have been treated by our city council.
