It is the kind of news no one wants to get.
In the early morning (Dec 17, 2020), eight days before Christmas, our mom Dorothy and her partner John’s home went up in flames and burned down to the ground in a devastating house fire without warning.
As best we can tell, the fire started in the garage in the middle of a snowstorm. Dorothy and John, Dorothy’s sister and their three dogs are ok. They made it out alive only in their pajamas and slippers into -35 windchill weather. The house and everything in it was lost. Their home, treasured memories, furniture, clothes, personal items – nothing is left. They are strong people but heartbroken to say the least.
The community of Marie Reine, AB and surrounding local communities are rallying and neighbours have offered shelter, food, support, and clothes. Even the Red Cross has stepped in and offered help with clothes and basic necessities from the Walmart in Peace River, AB.
If you know Dorothy, you know that she will offer the clothes off her back to those who need it. They are good people who live humbly and gives everything they have to others. This time, they are the ones who need help. If you are able to, please help. Anything you can offer will go a long way. Ways you can help:
- Keep them in your thoughts and hearts
- Donate to the GoFundMe
- Send donations to Community Hall, 82028 Hwy 744, Marie Reine, Alberta, T0H 2N1
- E-transfer to [adresse e-mail supprimée] (Kevin is Dorothy’s son, this is for those who are less comfortable with GoFundMe)
- Help us spread the word by sharing
All the funds raised will be used to help Dorothy and John with food, clothes, medication, basic necessities, dog care and food, and figuring out where to live short term and then long term. A generous local family has miraculously offered an older trailer as a potential short-term solution and if this works it will need repairs and to be moved, insurance, paint, etc. – the GoFundMe will help with this as well.
We are setting up a CIBC Trust Account and will update with that information once we have it.
We will post regular updates. We are Dorothy’s kids – Kevin and Ksenia – we live in Whitehorse, Yukon. You can call us anytime at [téléphone supprimé]. We love you and thank you for any help you offer. Merry Christmas, keep your loved ones close and safe.
