Dorothy D'Costa: A Hero to Many. A Mother to All.

Hello dear family and friends,

My name is Jude Wellington. On behalf of myself and my brother, Don Wellington, we thank you very much for giving us this opportunity to share with you a story about an extraordinary person who happens to be our mother, Dorothy D'Costa.

Dorothy was born in India on July of 1938. In her early years, Dorothy aspired to become a nurse and to be of help to others. She initially desired to join the Catholic church as a nun, but she fell in love. Dorothy and our late father, George, decided to immigrate to the United States to offer my brother and me a better life. They made their plans, and in 1970, Dorothy landed in NYC with $10 and a nursing degree. She worked hard to bring her husband and two sons to America in 1971.

Over the years of her career as a Registered Nurse, Dorothy has worked harder than anyone I know to pursue the American dream. She also helped many family members immigrate to America to pursue their dreams. Her goal was simple; if you do your best to be good to yourself and others with joy and love in your heart, our Almighty Father will bless you with abundance. Her deep faith in God has provided a life full of blessings.

Dorothy retired as an RN from University Medical Center (UMC) in Las Vegas. In July of this year, Dorothy suffered a massive stroke and was rushed to the same hospital, UMC. Her medical staff knew Dorothy was part of an extraordinary family of healthcare workers and did everything possible to save her. On July 11 at 2:45pm PDT, Dorothy D'Costa took her last breath. And now, her watch has ended, but her memory and spirit will live on with her two sons, three granddaughters, three great-grandchildren, and her entire family.

The last six years of Dorothy's life required full-time care. Her eldest son, Don, stepped up to care for Dorothy to the best of his abilities. Don committed his life to caring for Dorothy. Unfortunately, the pandemic created even more grief. Then Dorothy's home suffered significant flood damage resulting in her funeral pre-arrangement documents going missing. Throughout these challenges, Don did everything he could to keep her safe and happy. Almost every day, Dorothy would say, "I don't know what I would do without my son by my side. He has sacrificed so much to care for me."

The family of Dorothy D'Costa needs your help with her funeral services. We appreciate your kindness, generosity, and love during these difficult times.

As Dorothy always said to everyone in her life, "I love you. God go with you."

Thank you very much!

Much love,

Jude Wellington
