Dorothy Brewer Davis Medical Expenses Fund

During the early morning hours of Sunday July 17th, 2022, a fire broke out on the back wall of Dorothy, Luke, Lucas, And Zach's house in Yuba City, CA. Luke, Dorothy, the boys, and the dogs were able to get out safely.

They lived in this home for 20 years; they raised their two beautiful sons in it and shared countless happy memories. Dorothy lovingly decorated it and filled it with joy. Thankfully the house is insured, and we are hopeful that will all work itself out.

Tragically, the day after the fire, Dorothy collapsed.

Although EMTs arrived quickly and attempted to restart her heart, they were unsuccessful for nearly an hour. Dorothy was on life support for two days. Unfortunately, She was unable to come back to us, and Dorothy died Thursday afternoon.

In the span of one week, Luke and the boys lost their house and the most important person in their life.

Many people in the community have met Dorothy. She was the Assistant Director at Farm to Fork, an adult day center for adults with disabilities. Where Dorothy, Luke, and Zach have worked together for nearly 10 years. All of the employees and clients feel like family. Dorothy went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt seen, heard, and understood. She called the clients “forkers” and she treated each of them with love, kindness, respect and patience. Everyone who has ever met her remembers her big smile, her laugh, and her green eyes. Her energy seemed unmatched, she was always working hard at her many projects. Her clients enjoyed each day-eating the fruits and vegetables from their garden, feeding their chickens and animals, making tye-dyes they could wear, doing ceramics, or just laughing with their farm “Mom”.

She was everyone's rock, and the captain of the ship. She ran the house and business efficiently but with love and joy. Our lives will be less bright, less full, and definitely less meaningful without her in it. Our family, our clients, and our community will feel the impact of her loss. We don’t know where to go from here.

We are hopeful that the community can help cover the medical costs that will be incurred during this time. And also the cost of rebuilding their home and their lives. Prayers and good thoughts are also appreciated.
