Dori’s Fight

To know Dori, is to love her. Her ability to make you feel seen, loved, and cared for by saying just a few words, praying with you, or giving you a hug is one of her greatest gifts. The numbers of lives this woman has touched with her heart for Jesus is immeasurable.

On February 2, she was admitted to the hospital with what we had thought was an atypical pneumonia infection that she had been fighting for a few months. Over the last week, despite all kinds of treatments, bloodwork, and testing her respiratory status slowly declined and she ended up being sedated and put on a ventilator on Friday Feb 7. By the following morning after not much improvement overnight her doctors felt the best and only option at that time was to put her on ECMO and buy some time to continue to figure out what was causing her lungs to be so sick. ECMO is a machine that essentially works as her lungs outside her body by oxygenating her blood to allow her lungs to have a chance to fully rest and heal. On Monday Feb 10 they were able to do a lung biopsy and we got results that we were not expecting, she has a very rare type of lung cancer called Mucinous Adenocarcinoma. This specific type of cancer is known for mimicking pneumonia which can lead to a very late diagnosis. At this time she remains on ECMO and the ventilator and because of her critical status she is not strong enough to attempt any sort of treatment.

We are all grieving, we are devastated and absolutely heart broken by this diagnosis.

Creating this page feels like one of the only things that I can do to help alleviate some of the financial burden that is going to come in the aftermath of this. Thank you to every single person that has prayed for us this last week, we have felt it. Please continue to lift my mom up in prayer and our family as we have some hard decisions to make.
