Our sweet little friend Dorian was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He is our eldest cat at 12 years old. The initial cost of bloodwork and the cost of future appointments is quickly adding up beyond what we can currently afford.

A little over a month ago, Dorian began exhibiting some extreme symptoms that landed us at the emergency vet. Bloodwork revealed that he has an extremely overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). This is a condition that causes a great deal of distress and can lead to fatal health complications, but it is manageable with daily medication. We started him on the necessary meds immediately. Thankfully, they have already been helping him gain back weight and have improved his overall disposition dramatically; but he is still displaying some behaviors that could indicate a secondary health condition or an issue with his current dosage.

We now (within the next week) need to do additional bloodwork to ensure the dosage is correct and that no other health concerns have revealed themselves with his thyroid levels (assumedly) changing. This bloodwork is mandatory before our vet will continue his medication.

However, bloodwork is relatively expensive (between $400-$500 each time), and we also have to account for examination costs. We are still recovering from the cost of his appointment last month. Our vet also said it is highly possible we will need to do additional bloodwork again within the next month or so depending on his reaction to any dosage changes.

Once we ensure he is on the correct dose and rule out any other health concerns, the medication itself is extremely affordable and his condition can be easily managed with these meds.

We are unfortunately not in a great financial position at the moment, so the cost of bloodwork and follow up appointments is a significant hurdle for us. $1,500 would help to cover the cost of the emergency appointment last month, the appointment needed this week, and the appointment that will likely be needed next month.

We would be extremely grateful for any help with getting through this time. Dorian is a truly beloved cat and we want to do everything we can to provide him with the best remaining years possible.
