This is Dorian. He is your typical 6 year old boy. Dorian has Type 1 diabetes. This means daily injections and finger pokes. It also means that every single meal has to be accounted for with insulin. Until a cure if found this is Dorian's life. Diabetes does not sleep, it does not stop for the sleet or snow or dead of night.
As you can imagine, diabetes can be isolating for any person much less a 6 year old. This is where Camp Sweeney comes in.
Camp Sweeney is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to help diabetic children and their siblings ages 5 to 18. At camp everybody is treated like a diabetic. Activities range from bowling, canoing, archery, and more.
Campers fees include all meals, medical care, and medical supplys for 3 weeks. 1 session at Camp Sweeney is $3500, and is no longer covered by insurance.
When he was little our goal was to raise awareness and funds for diabetes research. Now that he has gotten older our goal is super simple, raise enough money to send Dorian to Camp Sweeney.
