Doria House Fire

It happened at 3pm Saturday January 15th. We were all home. Downstairs. I was doing dishes and kids were playing in the TV room. Fire detectors started going off in Angelique’s room 1st, so we checked there, nothing, I ran upstairs and I saw a black cloud of smoke coming out of the ceiling vent in our room. I assumed it was in the attic so I didn’t check any other rooms (THANK GOD!). We always close the boys bedroom doors when they aren’t in there because we don’t want Isabelle wandering in there (small toys she can choke on). They hadn’t been in their rooms since early in the morning. We all got out and called 911. Michael had a tower fan plugged in (not sure if it was on or not). Fire inspector concluded that was the culprit by the evidence (or lack of, burned til it disappeared. All that was left was a part of the cord and a melted plug socket.). He said they are notorious for fires if left plugged in powered on or not. I AM SO GRATEFUL we were home and able to call fire responders there quickly and the kids and I were unharmed. Otherwise this would be an entirely different story. Michael lost everything. His and George’s fish ended up dying. And with all the toxic smoke and water damage we are displaced. Insurance companies are always a waiting game.
