Doreen's fight against T-cell acute Leukemia
Donation protected
Hey everyone, I'm Allie Sciulla, the daughter of Doreen Sciulla.
It was 3 years ago that my mom started feeling ill and doctors couldn't figure out what was going on with her. With night sweats and rapid weight loss, she was told it was probably hormonal. Just a few months ago she had taken some more tests and found out that she has a rare and very serious cancer.
Doreen has the extremely rare cancer: T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia WITH Leukemia Cutis. She has been hospitalized since the beginning of October and has no set release date.
My mom first checked into Hoag Hospital but then was transported to USC due to the severity of her condition. My mom has been doing chemo as well as topical steroids as this cancer showed up in lesions on her skin. Thankfully the steroid baths have helped the inflammation and rashes considerably. While the chemo has obviously taken a toll on her, she is responding well to it! Her blood cells are coming back!
Even though that is some good news, my mom is not out of the woods yet.
What lies ahead for Doreen? She is only half way through her chemo treatments. My mom also needs a bone marrow transplant and she is seeking a donor. I will be getting tested to see if I am a match. If anyone else would like to help in that way, please let me know.
My dad, Robert, has been visiting my mom in the hospital every single day since her admission. He will leave work early to drive against the dreaded LA traffic.
This has obviously impacted our entire family. Emotionally and financially. The hospital bill alone at this point is astronomical.
My mom has not been to work in months and my dad has been juggling everything. He even started making lunches to bring my mom, which is really sweet...but I don't think he knows how to make much more than PB&J and tuna sandwiches. I don't know how much more of those my mom can take! (I'm just kidding lol)
I am moving back to California next month to be with them and help out for a few months. I decided to create this page to spread the word to family, friends and loved ones.
Anything you can do to help my mom and dad during this time is appreciated and the Sciulla's thank you so much.
