Doreen Miner Award for Service to the Community

Donation protected
Doreen Miner is a lot of things. Endlessly warm-hearted, down for a good 'bleather', sincerely interested in the world, in your life, in your family's lives, in the lives of the people who used to live down the street but moved 40 years ago. She is also the consummate community member. Whether supporting friends, volunteering at a school event, or her wonderful work as a social worker supporting the children of Coolville. Doreen has also been a long-time supporter of education (especially geography!), of her own children and of students from harder backgrounds, and has served as a loving and supportive friend to many Ohio University students she has encountered through Steve. As Steve retires from Ohio University (OU), we want to make sure that Doreen's contribution to OU is also properly celebrated. For that reason, we spoke to the History Department, and they have agreed to establish a Doreen Miner Award for Service to the Community, to one outstanding undergraduate each year who has committed themselves not only to excelling in their studies of History, but to voluntary service in the local community. Our goal is to endow this award so that it can carry forward for at least ten years, as a small recognition of all Doreen has done, and will continue to do, for Athens, for OU, and for young people.
