Jack Dorbin Medical Expenses

Donation protected

Jack is a spunky 11 year old with autism who is fighting hard to beat his cancer. On May 9th, during a birthday party for his sister and brother, Jack was rushed to the hospital. It was quickly determined that he had a pituitary tumor, specifically a Non-Germinomatous Germ Cell Tumor, and was medevaced to Riley Children's Hospital for emergency treatment and surgery. Since then, Jack has undergone multiple medical procedures, hospital stays, and chemo treatment. He is doing well, but still has a ways to go. At the beginning of November, Jack and his mom will move to Chicago for 6 weeks of daily proton beam radiation. We don't know what this will mean for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

He also has adrenal insufficiency due to his tumor. It grew so large that it destroyed the part of his brain that controls his endocrine system. He has to take hydrocortisone, Desmopressen, and Synthroid, a drug that helps keep his electrolytes balanced. Dealing with that will be a lifelong process.

This has been a busy and trying time for the family. Jack's oldest sister went off to her first year of college in Oklahoma not long ago. A trip his mom had to miss. His other siblings are back at school after a summer of being shuffled around from house to house, but are busy with activities and trying to live as normal a life as possible.

Through all this, Jack and his mom, Shirley, have even started handing out boxes of snacks to other kids going through treament. They dubbed them, "Jack's snacks: Because getting well is hungry work".

Medical and travel expenses are piling up. The family had to dip into their oldest's college fund and with at least another year of having to meet their 11K deductible after this one, they could use your help and support. Please consider leaving a donation and/or your words of support. Donations will go toward medical expenses, replenishing the college fund, and handing out more Jack's snacks.
