Don't Talk About the Monster on the Roof

Hi, my name is Darrel, I am the Producer for the 2023 Curtin University Major Production Short Film "Don't Talk About the Monster on the Roof" directed by Christopher Paik-Swan.

This short film is about four friends. Kyle, Grif, Ben and Jack decide to take to the outback for a road trip. Things start out fun and lightharted, but Grif soon discovers what seems to be a monster on the top of the car's roof. The others in the car decide to not acknowledge it, not wanting to upset Kyle, the driver. One by one, each friend is taken by the monster, until Kyle is left completely isolated. The viewer is left wondering if the monster was real or a stand-in for Kyle’s emotional outbursts that drove his friends away as he is suffering from a mental condition.

This short film is one of, if not the most important project that could jumpstart our career in the industry. The experience we have gained in our education journey as Curtin University film students started as a hobby and passion from a young age. Now it's our chance, given the opportunity to work along the pathway we all dreamed of.

Your help and support through this funding campaign would allow us to maintain a high level of production by using a studio that we will need to rent for the film as well as hiring equipment. We have plans to travel to far outback locations and the props such costumes, car, and more additional props for interior decor. Film festival entries and marketing costs are also considered to get our film in front of eyes around the world and hopefully further our careers.
