Medical kidnapping at teaching hospitals like Shands, is a term used to describe a situation where a hospital or medical institution takes custody of a patient against their will or the will of their parents or legal guardians. This can occur in cases where the patient or their family disagrees with the medical treatment being recommended or provided by the hospital.
I'll get to what happened to my Son & Daughter inlaw's 10 month old Daughter in a second,
These hospitals have a thing called sovereign immunity too. Imagine a world where you knew even if you did everything wrong and someone dies because your experiment goes bad or they violate your patient rights, you're immune to legal recourse. You can't be sued. This is the case with Shands in Gainesville, FL.
Teaching hospitals can take custody of a patient in order to use them for medical research or experimentation without their consent. Not a concerning issue, until you or your baby is the patient, and you may not fully understand the potential risks and side effects of participating in medical research, yet, you will be pressured or coerced into participating. This happened to my children and their baby girl Ailey.
They were held against their will for an extended period of time, and after having asked for medical records for over 5 weeks for another doctor to give a second opinion (they didnt give their medical records to them for 5weeks while in the hospital) they were given the ultimatum to completely render their rights as parents to the hospital, have DCF take the baby against their will, or not be able to have dialysis for her any longer, take her home to hospice and told she wouldn't last a week. This was all to force them to keep her there.
They chose hospice and then Shands changed their minds again. They wouldn't let them get discharged even after Hospice accepted their infant into care.
My son was actually detained and cuffed trying to prevent him from leaving the hospital, they sent police to my home looking for the baby. This all happened after having to call a Senator who was able to get the Governor Ron DeSantis and a very expensive good attorney involved to get DCF and CPS to remove the threat of taking their child. So Shands tried doing themselves and threatened to have their attorney get a court order to let them keep the baby.
Why would a hospital do this? Supposedly, they diagnosed our granddaughter with an extremely rare genetic disease called PH1.
Think like a teaching hospital for a moment and tell me what you want to do when you find an extremely rare opportunity to research in the most difficult area of medicine, pediactrics.
Medical kidnapping at teaching hospitals is a serious violation of patient rights and autonomy, it is done for financial and egotistical gain, and it has long-lasting consequences for both the patient and their family. We believe it is important for patients and their families to be aware of their legal rights and to seek legal help if they believe their autonomy as parents is being violated and we have started to fight this.
I come to you today, my heart broken and my children, Gregory and Ambrie Steinmetz, asking for help, not just for them, but to raise awareness of this problem many in hospitals like this are experiencing as we speak.
Gregory and Ambrie's 10-month-old baby girl, Ailey Grace Steinmetz passed away in my son's arms, on June 7th, 2023, at 4:30 pm.
He and his wife and thier daughter were afforded the blessing to have their daughter pass from this world to be with God in their arms and not on a table as an experiment because God gave them favor with a Senator and the Governor. We need to help others know how to combat this so we as Americans can hold hospitals accountable and be with those we love fighting the hardest battles of our lives. The battle for a life today is truly an all out war if you are asking questions that challenge an ego or worse, a source of funding.
Currently Gregory and Ambrie are facing financial difficulties as they have both been doing everything they can for their daughter for the last 2 months at hospitals and specialists from South Florida to Tennessee fighting for Ailey's life. They have used up their savings and credit cards and now trying to figure out burial expenses and how to get back on track financially, trying to cope with the loss of Ailey, and figuring out what purpose God has for them making others aware of how they can make sure what happened to them doesn't happen to someone else.
They were able to get medicaid to help with a lot of the medical but do not have insurance to cover the funeral expenses and burial lot for Ailey. The time off and travel to doctors, and attorneys has all been out of pocket too but they are committed to making the details of this known. (What I have described here only scratches the surface of what they have gone through)
At the current moment they are struggling to come up with the funds to give their daughter the goodbye she deserves and wanting to purchase a burial plot next to family.
We are now reaching out to you, our community, to help the Steinmetz family during this difficult time and to help us continue to raise awareness on a larger scale so this doesn't happen to others.
Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated and used to assist with the funeral expenses and burial lot for Ailey first, and then to help Gregory and Ambrie get back on their feet financially, and then to promote awareness and the steps it took to prevent Ailey from being held at the hospital that would not let them leave for a second opinion.
Furthermore, Gregory is willing to work for donations to help make ends meet for his family if you are in the Lake, Sumter, or Marion counties doing custom construction projects.
Gregory and Ambrie have 2 surviving daughters, Skyler 2yrs old and Rose 1 year old. The loss of Ailey has been extremely traumatic, and we want to provide as much support as possible to help them through this time and help them fight for something they believe gives purpose and meaning to their daughters life.
Thank you for helping us tell others about medical kidnapping and especially for helping our children during this time.
Sincerely,
Their Grandfather,
Greg Steinmetz Sr.
