On behalf of Beth Cox, I am reaching out to everyone in a time of upsetting, unexpected, and urgent need.
Recently, Beth has had to defend herself from false accusations that resulted in a legal battle that has turned her life upside down. To those who know her, you see she has been living in her RV, tirelessly working to support herself in addition to being a devoted mother, friend, and mentor. What you don't see is the adversity she’s faced leading to this point in her time working at a male correctional facility.
Have you ever seen the Oscar nominated documentary The Alabama Solution? Human souls are subjected to inhuman conditions. With only a glimpse of the torment the correction system inflicts upon its men, it leaves you to wonder how it treats its women.
Within the same system in the documentary Beth dealt with the many challenges of being a woman In a male dominated work force, Beth faced multi-layered discrimination. She did double the amount of work with half the pay compared to her male coworkers of the same job title. All whilst having a degree which should have qualified her for a higher pay scale compared to her colleagues without one. If that wasn't insulting enough, Beth was compelled to work a second job without compensation under threat of "if she did not comply it would be noted in her evaluations" which affected her raises twice.
As a result of the inequality, Beth had no other choice but to file a formal complaint. Whilst the senior administration ultimately conceded the unequal pay, the financial devastation had already taken its toll, leaving her destitute and incredibly vulnerable. Now, she is not receiving back pay or fair treatment, and the former employer is withholding the documents she needs to obtain basic necessities. Beth is facing malicious retaliation in the form of stacked legal charges in St. Clair County.
This is an extraordinarily malicious case, Beth is facing an opponent with unlimited resources, and she has the will and determination to fight the allegations and also we hope with the support of people who have read her story.
If you want to help fight against injustice, please consider supporting Beth.
