On December 17, 2015 our best buddy Don had a fall at work. No one knows what caused the fall. But he fell back and hit his head on the concrete outside one of the hangars at Delta Airlines. He sustained a severe head injury with a brain bleed. He was taken by ambulance to HCMC and was admitted to the SICU in critical condition. He was immediately taken in to surgery to insert a catheter to relieve the pressure in his brain.
On the following Saturday, December 19, he was taken back into surgery as the brain pressure was continuing to increase. He had the left side of his skull removed to relieve the pressure. They found extensive bruising on the left side of his brain with diffuse bleeding on both sides of the brain.
On December 23rd, he developed MRSA, pnuemonia and is still being treated with heavy duty antibiotics.
On December 28th, he went back into surgery to have a tracheostomy and feeding tube inserted for long term treatment.
On December 31st, he regained consciousness, but doctors are not sure of the extent of his brain injury or whether he will fully recover. He was transferred to a Long Term Acute Care Hospital in Saint Paul on January 4th. He will be transferred back to HCMC in about a week to have his skull replaced and will be back and forth between hospitals for extensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Doctors do not forsee hosptial release for approximately six months.
Don is 37, single, and has no short term disability and the workers compensation claim was denied, With mounting medical bills and no income, any donation would be truly appreciated. No donation is too small. With everyone coming together we can provide a great financial relief for Don and his family.
