On February 11, 2017 I was coming home from a gig and was pulled over for speeding on the outskirts of Rapid City MI.  (50 in a 35) I expected to get a speeding ticket or a warning. While getting my driver’s license out of my wallet, the police officer saw my Michigan Medical Marijuana Card. I have been a qualified patient in full compliance since 2012. Upon seeing the card, he asked me out if my vehicle to perform a roadside sobriety test. Even though I performed the tests without any problems, he failed me for technicalities. I feel that when the officer saw my MJ card, he made a decision to arrest me, and was going to find a way to do just that. I have a great team of lawyers, testimony from my doctor and others that were with me just prior to being pulled over stating that I was not intoxicated. I also have the body cam video from the police officer’s camera showing that I was not intoxicated. I have been fighting this for 11 months and the legal fees have surpassed $10,000. I usually don’t ask for charity, but in this case, we all need to stand up to the police, prosecutors and judges that do not follow the law. I am in favor of setting legal limits on MJ similar to alcohol, but at this point in time, cops in Michigan can still arrest you for “seeing signs of impairment” without any proof. This has been a nightmare and any help would be appreciated as we head toward a jury trial to settle this. Please donate what you can and help keep up the good fight!
