Donovan’s medical and financial needs.

Update

Donovan is slowly making progress. He was able to tolerate sitting in the electric wheelchair the rehab center provided for him. We were also able to wash his hair after 2 months. His upper body strength is slowly building and we can see that. His pain which had been at a constant 8 has finally been managed with the proper medications. His discharge date was changed to the 25th, but we still haven’t found a skilled nursing facility that his insurance will approve. He really wants to come home, but understands that he still needs more healing and help that unfortunately I cannot provide for him at the moment. I am being taught how to move him safely and transfer him from bed to chair and back. It’s been a bit daunting for me with the kids returning to school and being able to visit him an hour away. As of now I visit him once a week and the weekends I stay most of the day with him. Thank you to everyone who has donated it has helped us out tremendously. Please share his story, he still needs tons of support.

Update:

Donovan has been doing well since entering rehab. He still has a very long road to recovery, but we are hopeful for a miracle. The severity of his SCI has affected Dons ability to regulate his blood pressure. The moment his physical therapist sits him at the edge of the bed his BP drops and he gets very dizzy and lightheaded. This has made it even tougher for Don to get proper therapy and be able to transfer from bed to chair and chair to bed. Also, his insurance is no longer covering his rehab stay and he may be discharged the 19th of this month. This is all very fast and scary for him and I. He doesn’t feel ready, and frankly neither do I. We’ve been moving furniture around so that we can better accommodate Don and his electric wheel chair when he finally receives it. Unfortunately, his customized chair will not be ready by the time he comes home; leaving him chair less for about 30 to 60 days. I will need to look into renting one while we wait for his to arrive. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. We truly appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.

Hi, my name is Maria and I am fundraising for my husband Donovan.

My husband was in a horrible motorcycle accident on June 6th while on his way to turn in a job application. He is a veteran who has struggled with severe PTSD, Bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. As a result of the accident, he sustained numerous injuries. The impact was so significant he sustained an aortic dissection, thoracic spine fracture, paralysis, pulmonary contusion, splenic laceration, renal injury, contusion of colon (he now needs a permanent colostomy), femur fracture, toe laceration, and more. His life is forever changed because of someone’s poor decision. My husband was finally able to be moved to a rehab facility a few days ago, and will begin extensive and grueling physical, and occupational therapy. I make the hour drive every other day to be able to be there to support him during this difficult time while also taking care of our two younger kids. Thanks to his VA benefits most of his medical needs are being met, but it leaves very little room for our bills. As a result we’ve fallen behind. We never ask for help so this is hard for me, but if you find it in your heart to help him out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much and God bless you♥️
