Hello family and friends. Thank you so much for your prayers, calls, and text during this trying time.
A little back story of our sweet Donovan. He was born with a sickle cell anemia that he had fought for 13 years, however due to Covid complications, he lost his battle.
On Thursday 11/11/21, Donovan started having seizures around 2:30 in the morning. The hospital said that he had bleeding on his brain, which he was then air lifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital to be evaluated. Once there doctors said he had a stroke. The stroke caused a severe brain injury that the doctors informed us was unable to be repaired. Because of Donovan having sickle cell anemia and also having COVID, it formed a blood clot. The damage was primarily at the base of his brain which is where the stem cell is. This damage left Donovan with zero brain activity and doctors declared him brain dead.
His mother Teresita Horne had to make the difficult decision to take him off the ventilator which took place on Friday November 12th, 2021. As Teresita was in the hospital battling COVID and pneumonia, she was unable to be there with Donovan, to say her good byes or hug her baby one last time.
I know people have reached out asking how can they help. We are asking as a family for any help during this difficult time. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated. All funds collected will go to help with medical expenses, memorial services, or food to the family to help relieve some of that stress to Teresita and her family during this difficult time.
Donovan did have health insurance, however medial bills are still rolling in, following Donovan's passing.
