On Sunday, December 21st we unexpectedly rushed our 10 month old kitty Donny to the ER due to vomiting. We were informed by staff that he could possibly have a a blockage in his intestine. The next morning we were able to schedule an appointment with our vet to see him, they let us know that the best thing to do is an x-ray and go from there. Later that day they confirmed that his intestine was the same size as his spine and his vet was very concerned and worried about his extremely high kidney levels, which could result in death. She let us know that if we don’t proceed with surgery it is in our best interest to take him immediately to the ER and either proceed with a surgery or put him to sleep. We found ourselves again in the ER that same night but the doctor telling us that we should at least go through with an ultrasound to see what exactly started this. We got an ultrasound and the results came back clear- he did not eat anything nor have a foreign object blocking his intestines, but instead was “intussusception” meaning his intestines are telescoping into one another. We were informed he needs immediate surgery but due to the severity of his case and it being so close to christmas many hospitals in the bay and sacramento areas are either closed, don’t have the specialist to perform surgery, or they don’t have the teams to support the doctor to take on his case. They quoted us the possible cost of the surgery landing anywhere in between $8k-$15k. We were at our last resort with one hospital in stockton and our vet called us and let us know a doctor would be able to perform surgery tomorrow morning (December 24th) for Donny but quoted us $4,600. Although it’s the best quote we’ve received it is still a hard payment to fulfill. We decided it’s best to start a go fund me and anything raised will be paid fully towards Donny’s medical bills.
