My brother Donny Parker is fighting for his life right now and needs some help.
Donny P, a devoted Christian and preacher at Desert Springs Community Church in Moses Lake, WA, has always dedicated his life to helping others.
Now, as he faces stage 4 kidney cancer, he needs our support more than ever. Donny is beginning his second round of immunotherapy this week, which his oncologist described as his “last shot.” If his body is able to tolerate it, this treatment is essentially the last option.
Donny is also seeking a second opinion at Dana Farber Cancer Center, a process that comes with significant costs, upwards of $3,000.
Unfortunately, Donny was denied SSI benefits recently due to friends’ generosity to help pay his rent being counted as ordinary income, leaving him without a safety net while he appeals the decision.
Donny’s illness has deeply affected his independence. He is unable to work, and since initially being diagnosed, he has lost over 100 pounds.
Just six weeks ago, he broke his hip in a fall down the stairs while home alone and now limps around, waiting for an assessment for a motorized wheelchair. He’s too weak to use a manual wheelchair and, despite being in constant pain, saves his medication for nighttime so he can at least get some rest.
He lives in agonizing pain and it’s incredibly sad to see.
Recently, his cousin Kole moved in to help him at home, but Donny still faces many daily challenges. He lives with limited support, and relies on occasional visits from friends, neighbors and church members… but there’s so much more he could benefit from.
The funds raised here will help cover his housing costs, ongoing medical treatments, and daily living expenses during this critical time.
We’re aiming for the following donations:
- $3000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Center consultation
- $2,500 for July housing costs & $2,500 for August housing costs to get through the 8 weeks of initial treatment
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing Donny’s story or offering local support. He could use help with cooking, cleaning, maintaining his home, and rides to and from appointments. Every bit of support, whether financial or practical, will make a difference for Donny as he fights for his life.
