Donnell Hunter Recovery Path

As many of you know, our loving Son, Brother, Friend and above all Husband and Father, Donnell Hunter is currently fighting for his life battling COVID-19 in Albuquerque, NM. Donnell has been sedated and on a ventilator for the past 2 weeks. There has been a lot progress made in Donnell's fight against this terrible virus, but this progress has also not come without complications. The Dr.'s are doing everything within their power to make sure that Donnell wins this battle, and in doing so they have had to help Donnell's heart along during the process of trying to ween him off of the heavy sedation medications.

These two minor setbacks also brought good news today! A heart specialist said that Donnell's echocardiogram showed that his heart is in good shape and all of the results of the test came back positive. Donnell has progressed from relying 100% on the ventilator for his breathing and is now at 60% ventilator. 

Ashley and the Family are forever thankful for all of the overwhelming love and support that has come in from all over the country.

We will keep all of you updated on Donnell's path to recovery by posting updates here for all of you to follow. Please rely on these updates as soon as we get them from the Dr.  so that all of Ashley's attention can be focused on Donnell and the children.

Donnell is a fighter. Being sick is nothing new to him and he will win this battle! Donnell has spent the majority of his adult life on dialysis, he has had numerous kidney transplants scheduled only to be denied time after time on the operating room table. Then finally in 2015 Donnell received a kidney that changed his life forever. The Dr. who performed Donnell's kidney transplant said he had never seen a kidney patient like Donnell before. Donnell was determined to not let his health get in his way and the way that he went about life without kidneys was truly remarkable.

For the first time since he was 17 years old Donnell was able to go about life like the rest of us. His career took off, he has been an amazing provider for his family and nothing made him more happy than to be the ROCK for his wife Ashley and all of the amazing children that they are raising and have helped raised. His wife and children are what makes him proud beyond words. Donnell said in a text message before being placed on a ventilator "I can handle being sick, I have been sick my whole life, I can handle anything, but i can't handle not being able to see Ashley and the kids, and not being there for them right now". It is never about Donnell when you are dealing with Donnell, he places everyone before himself. He is a proud Christian and he shows it with his actions on a daily basis.

Donnell has always focused all of his time and energy on other people. His priorities in life are simple and he is not shy about it. They are God and Family. After that it is any and everyone that he can have a positive impact on. Donnell would stay up reading Go Fund Me pages and donate to total strangers just because they needed help. Having a Go Fund Me page would be the absolute last thing that Donnell would want us to do right now. After many days of contemplation, and conversations with family members this is just something that WE HAVE TO DO. Right now Donnell and Ashley need US.

Medical bills have already started to accumulate and it is going to be a difficult road to recovery for Donnell and all of his Family. At this time we have the ability to help Donnell the same way that he has always stepped up and helped so many others. Donnell is always first in line to make sure that people know that he will help in any way possible. That is just who Donnell is.

Donnell is a larger than life individual who has found a way to remain humble and serve God and Family first. Donnell is genuine, when he speaks to you he means it, and you can feel it. Donnell really does care about people and with all the negative things that life can throw his way, he takes it on the chin and pays it forward at all costs. He has always been able to remain positive, strong, relentless, caring and loving. He is a one of a kind individual who has touched so many lives in his short time on this Earth. 

100% of the donations will go directly to Ashley Hunter to help with travel so she is able to be close to Donnell in Albuquerque, countless medical bills and keeping life as normal as possible for all of their beautiful kids!
