Donna's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
For those of you that have the pleasure of knowing our mom, you know that she is a beautiful gift. A true blessing. That she is strong...full of courage and unshakeable faith. She is a fighter...assigned some of the most difficult mountains just to show others that with God, they can be moved.

Moms story begins when she was first diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in January 2010. After an intense battle, and against all odds, she was healed completely and remained in remission for nearly 10 years.

In 2019, we received the news that moms cancer had returned. She underwent surgery to remove two lung tumors in Aug 2019 and completed chemo to ensure all traces of cancer were gone.

Although initially successful, we received the devastating news in May 2020 that the cancer was back yet again. She not only had a recurrence in her lung but she also had an additional 3 tumors grow on her chest and outside both underarms. In June, she started multiple chemotherapies and an immunotherapy. A month later, we found out that she also had a tumor in her right femur, near her hip, in which she immediately started radiation therapy.

Most recently, we've been informed that moms cancer is mutating...the cells are splitting and multiplying...and heartbreakingly, her current treatments are no longer working. Her oncologist recommended that mom see a doctor in San Antonio who leads a clinical research program for a new medication that targets this specific mutating cancer cell. Gratefully, after meeting with the doctor, mom was approved to be a part of this trial...although, it will require my parents to stay in San Antonio. As I type, they are currently there where mom is undergoing numerous tests before treatment is set to begin on Oct 14.

Over the course of the last few months, we have witnessed moms condition decline. This cancer is taking a devastating toll on her body. Dad has taken on the role as caretaker, honoring his commitment to serve her in sickness and in health. He has selflessly sacrificed so much to provide her with comfort and love. Moms journey ahead is more aggressive and difficult than ever before, as the days will be long and her treatment intense, but we stand firm in our faith and trust in the promise that God has declared over her life.

We are creating this page because there are so many of you that have reached out asking how you can help be of support to my mom and dad. This GoFundMe page will enable those of you who feel led to donate, a way to help relieve our family, financially, during this extremely difficult time. All donations will be used to pay for the ongoing out of pocket medical, travel, and living expenses during her treatment.  Please know that we appreciate each and every one of you, your friendships, all of the kind words, positive thoughts and prayers.
