Donna Waters Recovery

On May 3rd 2021 our Mother Donna went into Forsyth hospital for a spinal fusion surgery. Typically, this operation has an 80/90% chance of relief. Her goal was to have less pain when doing what she loved, living, playing with grandkids, her dog, church, AA, volunteering, friends and family, gardening and music. She was sent to a rehab facility in Kernersville on May 18th, this ended up being disastrous and almost deadly. On May 23rd she was rushed to Kernersville Medical Center and overnight sent back to Forsyth hospital. She ended up with an extreme number of complications that led to another procedure on May 28th.

At this point she is unable to walk or even stand on her own. Her entire reasoning for the back surgery has turned into a nightmare. A little over a month later we are now trying to get her approved for another facility. If she is to return to her home, she will need in home healthcare. The insurance she carries only covers so much.

Our Moms journey hasn’t always been easy nor a fairytale. She is one who would always offer to help others in any way she could. From an ear to listen or shoulder to cry on, cup of coffee, sweet conversation, volunteering, etc. She was never one to (directly) ask for help, nor are we. The care she deserves, and needs is not going to be covered completely. Prior to this, she helped take care of a disabled man… now she is on the same side. She is a Mother, Grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, caretaker and a person with a heart that glows. We are trying our hardest to stay positive and hope for a complete recovery. But the likelihood is minimal. Any help would be appreciated beyond words. If or hopefully when our Mom is back, she will never believe the kindness and support that y’all have provided.
