Donna Leftwich Hayes - Medical Bills

Dear Family and Friends,

As some of you may know, Donna went into the local hospital on December 26 2023 with flu and pneumonia. While hospitalized Donna had a collapsed lung, placed on a ventilator and developed sepsis. She was sent by life-flight helicopter to a trauma hospital for care. Donna’s kidneys shut down and she was placed on dialysis. Her medical team performed a tracheotomy for ventilation and inserted a feeding tube. For several weeks it was touch and go as to whether she would survive. On March 01 2024 she was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital in Greensboro NC. Donna has made great progress in the rehabilitation hospital and has had the tracheostomy removed and is off dialysis. She can talk and is learning to eat again.

She now needs to gain strength and learn to walk.

In the meantime, the bills keep piling up which brings us to the reason we’ve decided to set up this GoFund Me account. Donna’s insurance is only covering a portion of the bills. In addition to Donna’s medical bills, she has medical bills to pay for her husband Mike. Mike and Donna were married for 28 years and have 2 children (Anna & Jamey). Mike had been sick for several years until he passed away on December 07 2023. They have depleted ALL of their retirement to cover expenses prior to Mike’s death. Donna will need extensive therapy over several months to learn to walk again. As you can imagine, the cost of Donna’s recovery is going to be very costly.
