From Donegal to Benidorm – A Journey of Remembrance, Awareness and Hope.

Every mile has a purpose. Every journey tells a story. And sometimes, the miles we travel can make a life-changing difference.

Miles That Matter is a special fundraising initiative in aid of Road Victim Support Northern Ireland & Donegal, a family-led charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by fatal road traffic collisions.

Inspired by the geographical reach of our charity and the dedication of our volunteers, two local best friends have decided to take on an incredible road journey from the Donegal border, through all six counties of Northern Ireland, before continuing onwards to Benidorm.

But this journey is about much more than reaching a destination.

The Meaning Behind the Miles

Every week, our dedicated volunteers travel across Northern Ireland and Donegal, often covering considerable distances to reach families in the early aftermath of a fatal road traffic collision.

Whether it’s travelling to a family home to offer comfort and reassurance, attending bereavement support meetings, or delivering life-saving road safety education in schools and communities, every journey is made with compassion and purpose.

Over six months, these journeys represent thousands of miles of voluntary commitment, time and dedication.

Miles That Matter was created to recognise those journeys and raise the vital funds needed to keep them going.

Supporting Families When They Need Us Most

For a family experiencing the sudden and devastating loss of a loved one on our roads, life can change in an instant.

Our early intervention and home visiting service allows us to reach families during those first difficult days and weeks, providing a listening ear, emotional support, practical guidance and a compassionate connection with others who understand.

As a family-led charity, we know that sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply be there.

Educating Today to Protect Tomorrow

Funds raised will also help us continue delivering our Drive to Arrive and 65+ Safer Journeys road safety programmes across Northern Ireland and Donegal.

Through education, awareness and lived experiences, we aim to encourage safer decisions on our roads and help prevent other families from experiencing the heartbreak of a fatal road traffic collision.

This journey is dedicated to every life tragically lost on our roads and to the families who continue to carry that loss every day.

Behind every road traffic fatality is a name, a face, a family and a story that deserves to be remembered.

For some families, an ordinary journey became the day their lives changed forever.

Through Miles That Matter, we want to turn a journey into something positive — one that honours those lives, raises awareness and helps us continue supporting the families left behind.
