Maya is 29 years old and until 2014 she lived in Luhansk which is not far from the eastern border of Ukraine. When the hostilities began there the family moved to Berdansk for safety but this is near Mariupol, so she had to leave again in March this year. She has had to leave her parents behind because her father is under the age for combatants and her mother was not willing to leave him on his own. Maya used to work in beauty salons as a make-up artist and hopes to be able to work in UK too. However, she is quite traumatised by recent events and asked to be placed in a rural setting away from loud noises. She is very happy that we have a dog and we think regular walks in the peaceful English countryside will really help her adapt. To be able to find work she will need to drive as there is no public transport nearby; so we are fundraising for Maya to be given her own car as a gift to her and to enable her to build a new life here.
