It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of Jason Jones, a proud Aboriginal man, loving husband, devoted father, and valued business owner. Jason tragically grew his wings and departed this earth for the Dreaming on December 1, leaving behind his beautiful partner Kat and their five beautiful children, including their precious bubby son, Colebee shown above.

Jason was a man of incredible warmth and strength. We first met Jase and Kat at the Kinaway Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce Business Awards at the MCG, where we formed a connection that grew into a beautiful friendship. We later had the privilege of welcoming Jason to our block, where his business Country to Coast Tree Services did clearing work for us. We were in awe of his incredible capacity to Care for Country. His work set us up for success is ways we did not imagine. Our block has a special significance for us now - a love letter from mJase to all who call our property home - including Gruffalo the black wombat - Jas and Kat's children named him! During that time, Jason shared his struggles with us, and we shared ours. Together we held each other up, offering kindness and understanding.

Jason and his family eventually moved to Romsey, and although we hadn’t seen them for some time, we held hope of reuniting at this year’s Kinaway Business Award event. To know that Jason is no longer with us is beyond heartbreaking.

The loss of Jason has left an unimaginable void in the lives of his loved ones, especially Kat and their children. During this deeply challenging time, we want to ensure they feel the love and support of the community around them. To this end, we have created a GoFundMe page to help alleviate some of the financial burden on Kat as she navigates this profound loss.

We understand this season can be particularly painful for those grieving, and we hope this initiative can bring a sense of care and comfort to Jason’s family. Contributions, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference, helping Kat provide for their children and honour Jason’s legacy.

Jason’s passing is a solemn reminder of how tough life and business can be, particularly for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters. Let us come together as a community to show our love and support for Kat and her family.
