Belinda Horsley needs your help and support today to raise the money for her husband funeral arrangements because Seale Funeral Service has to be paid in full before his funeral service can be scheduled for DATE & TIME Freddie Horsley passed away September 6, 2025, peacefully in his sleep at our home in New Roads. He was only 54 years old. Last year, on June 15, 2024, I had taken him to PCGH emergency room where he actually died on me twice in the short time we had been put in a treatment room. We were told that he had to be transferred immediately to another facility due to the severity of his condition. After waiting for Acadian Ambulance Service for almost 3 hours, we finally got transferred to OLOL Regional Medical Center Hospital. While we were waiting for the floor to get the room prepared, he took a turn for the worse, suffered a stroke, and was admitted to ICU on life support. I was told to go home and get things in order in case he didn’t get through this. My prayers were answered because 3 days later, I had my best friend and husband back, but not without a long list of critical health issues: CVA, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, AFIB, pulmonary edema, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, and small cell lung cancer.

He had finally come to terms with his life situation of becoming disabled at the age of 37 back in 2008, but this was far worse than we both ever expected. The fact that he was basically given his second chance at life, he knew that his time left wouldn’t be very long. He actually thought he would have passed away before the one-year anniversary of being discharged from the hospital.

This past year flew by quicker than usual, and he became more worried about the end-of-life date approaching because he had lost his life insurance policy. We found out back before the 2014 flood here in Louisiana because he had been going to a doctor for over 8 years. As long as he could do paperwork periodically stating that Freddie was still disabled and unable to ever return to work, then we had an insurance plan that was also part of his disability award benefits. When the flood destroyed our 25th anniversary and left us homeless, we started over again with just each other. We relocated to New Roads in March 2017. We were in the process of moving and trying to get him into a new physician because he had gotten very upset with the situation of the doctor who refused to listen to his patient. He had some very important procedures done after the flood, and the doctor was still prescribing the same dosage for Rx. Freddie told him that honestly, he could not and would not say that the procedure was an improvement or not because he would be lying about the results, especially when he was still taking the larger dosage. The doctor got very angry and told him to find another doctor or he would have to take action towards the patient who refuses to follow his advice. That was the moment Freddie requested that the paperwork be completed, and he was told that he would have to come back in a week. He contacted me at work, and I explained to him that he was to sit in the waiting room all afternoon if necessary because it was only a one-page preprinted form. Everything was already filled out by the medical assistant with the filled-in area of patient name and reasons checked off why he was being dismissed from that office. Basically, fraudulent information was listed that improper pill counts and failed monthly drug screens, which was definitely incorrect. Therefore, he was without a doctor at the time but didn’t expect to receive the paperwork from American United Life Insurance Company. It would be the first time ever that we had to get a physician and return the paperwork, or they would terminate the policy. We tried with 2 offices over a year to schedule our appointment after we got all requested medical records for their office, and they were always going to call us back and never did! We inquired about the cost of paying the premium out of pocket, and they just replied to request reopening the case and possibly be reinstated, but time got away from us.

On August 15, 2024, we received a letter from another company that we had applied for life insurance coverage, and they had denied him coverage based on the information that we had submitted. I don’t think the person who I called after the initial underwriting phone interview was handling the call properly. The call was dropped, and that young lady never responded with a call back. I immediately called explaining the situation, and that person said she would transfer me to that extension. After 25 minutes, she still hadn’t figured out how to do such, so I requested to start the process over. She didn’t sound like she really knew what she was doing, especially when I was explaining that Freddie had been disabled since 2008 and his current situation had nothing to do with his overall reasons for disability. I wanted it documented correctly so we would not be caught off guard in the end, paying for the insurance and being denied later due to fraudulent application information originally submitted.

Now I’m left stressed over the money and not having it on hand without causing me a financial crisis in the upcoming months ahead when I’m living on basically my monthly social security payment and have an added expense that should have never happened in the first place! But it’s a fact of life that Freddie and I have always taken care of our obligations in life and never asked anyone for anything that we could not afford to pay for on our own. That is something about him being the youngest of 3 children who lost their parents at a very young age. He was proud of himself for not being a burden on his siblings or any other family members that they had, such as aunts or cousins.

Wanted to reach out to everyone and update the situation towards Freddie's funeral arrangements because seems like he's been gone forever and now they have basically said that until I pay the balance of $5800 that they can't proceed with scheduling the date and time of his burial service. Was also quoted another price for the original request for his sister and even myself to see him before his graveside service which is closed casket. Very emotional outcome yesterday sitting in my vehicle preparing myself for the long ride home and having to tell everyone that unsettling outcome.
