Donations for the Porter Family

Hello, everyone. My name is Kim Lucian. I am the daughter of Carolyn & Nick Porter. As some of you may already know, my dad was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in August of 2024. During his MRI, they noted that they also found something “suspicious” in his prostate, which was later determined to also be cancerous.

He had started doing chemo treatments and made it to round three of twelve before my mom found him laying in their bedroom floor. Responsive, but in bad shape.

He was transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital where it was determined that his lung had partially collapsed, and he had developed pneumonia. During his week+ stay at Northside, he also developed atrial fibrillation, and was put on blood thinners. These blood thinners caused an internal injury (from the fall) to reopen and fill his chest cavity with blood. He was choking up the blood and unable to breathe. They were able to clean out the blood and remove mucus build up on his lungs, however; he was required to be intubated for a short period.

Miraculously, dad got to come home from the hospital the day before Christmas Eve. He is still struggling to breathe (he also has COPD). His muscle tone has declined due to being bed bound, and is having issues with falling when attempting to be mobile.

His cancer treatments have been put on pause temporarily as he is too sick right now to tolerate chemotherapy.

My dad has Medicare for insurance. His hospital bills are mostly covered as far as we know. Unfortunately, with the plan he currently has, it does not cover his medications. Until we can get that figured out, the medication needed to treat his a-fib is $600 a month without insurance with no generic alternative.

On top of everything else, my mom discovered a leak in their basement caused by the dishwasher. A plumber came to inspect the leak and found that my parents still have lead piping in their house, which needs to be completely replaced. $12,000.

My mom is unable to work as much and leave my dad for long periods of time. Money is and will continue to mount with little money coming in. I am creating this fundraiser to help alleviate the financial burden off my parents, as it is a stress they do not need right now. We are greatly appreciative of any and all donation, big or small.
