Dear Family and Friends,
Perhaps many have heard, but maybe some have not....my dear sister, Kristin, has been diagnosed with a type of breast cancer called Ductal Carcinoma. She had a mastectomy done to ensure the known cancer is eradicated; however, we appreciate prayers against malignancy or spread, as we do not want to see it become invasive. We're praising Jesus that the surgery went well on February 21, though there is always a lot to process, in addition to dealing with pain, when undergoing such a major operation. At this point, it is unclear whether or not Kristin will need chemo (which is dependent on whether or not a spread of cancer has been detected), but she for sure will be facing reconstrutive surgery in the future.
During the next number of weeks/months, Kristin will not be allowed to do any heavy lifting or work at her nursing job. Due to her part-time status, she does not qualify for unemployment and therefore will be taking a hit financially. Of course there are medical bills to pay for as well, but they are trusting the Lord to provide what they need during this trial.
Derek and Kristin faithfully serve the Lord as missionaries with Action International Ministries, and about six years ago they transferred from Zambia to the U.S. and are continuing their work with the mission's agency. They live off of the financial gifts of supporters, in addition to the money made from Kristin's job. We want to rally around them during this season and offer both prayer support, which is most important, as well as tangible support. If you feel led to give financially through GoFundMe, they would be most grateful and humbled by your sacrifical giving.
Kristin summarized their hearts so well in a post to our family, shortly after receiving the diagnosis: "In what I have read and our experiences today with the medical team, we are so thankful for God's provisions of these doctors and their many years of experience and knowledge. Even so, our hope is in the Lord, and we trust that He will give us what we need for the next step. We so appreciate and are humbled by your prayers, and we are asking that the Lord would give us more of himself and would be pleased to heal." Amen!!
Even the morning of surgery, Kristin was preaching Psalm 103 to herself. What a beautiful example of gazing at Christ during the tumultuous moments in life. Discovering cancer was not on her list of "to do's" for 2023, but God knew about it and is being glorified in her and Derek's lives.
We would be thankful if you joined the ranks in prayer for Derek and Kristin and their beautiful children: Charlie, Sam, and Karis.
Some praises include:
The mastectomy surgery went well!
God has given them a good team of medical personnel.
The Lord is surrounding them with His peace that passes all understanding.
Prayer requests include:
Complete healing and recovery for her after both operations.
That the cancer was contained in what was removed, that it won't spread, and that chemo would not be necessary.
That God will provide for all their physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual needs during this season.
For a special protection of their children's tender hearts and that they would truly know the Holy Spirit is their Helper.
That people would be drawn to Jesus through this and that God would continue to be glorified!
Grateful for you,
