Hi, my name is Charlotte and I am fundraising for my poorly kitten Gus.
I have been a cat owner for many years having rescued a number of them. I am a single working parent to an only child and having seen the benefits of pet ownership decided to purchase two British shorthair kittens for my 6 year old son Joel.
We have had Gus and his brother Otis since the end of September 2024 when they were 3 months old. We fell in love right away and they have become key family members ever since.
Gus was previously a playful, out going boy who was always wanting food but at the beginning of November, following Gus’s neutering procedure, that started to change. He became quieter and stopped eating, as well as sleeping far more. I took him to the vets and he was put on antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication for 5 days due to a fever and improved. He then declined again a few days later, was put on the same course of treatment and hospitalised. Again he improved but then declined.
During this time, he had costly tests run but no diagnosis could be made. His vet did not consider FIP despite me mentioning a number of red flags, including pica which I now know to be a key symptom of dry FIP.
I have insurance for both cats (I absolutely would not have taken them on if I could not have afforded this) but due to the numerous tests, treatment and misdiagnosis from the vet. I am now at the limit of what my insurer will pay out and any other tests or treatment have been funded by me personally. I have now paid out of my savings for this.
After much discussion, my vet has finally agreed to treat him for FIP. However, they will not open an account to supply me with Summit and I am left with no choice but to use the more expensive Bova. They have estimated that the 84 day course will cost £3,000. I understand that this is far more expensive than most other vets but time is running out for Gus and I will be left with no other choice but to pay this or euthanise him.
I have been working with an amazing team at FIP Global CATS who have been doing everything they can to support Gus and I.
I have now spent all of my savings on Gus and am struggling to pay for his treatment. I cannot believe it has come to this but I have no other choice than to ask for your kindness. Given that Gus is only 6 months old I have to do whatever I can to give him a fighting chance at a good life. We adore him so much and it would break all of our hearts if we have to euthanise him due to not being able to afford the treatment (our vet has confirmed an animal charity will not take him when he is this poorly).
If there is any money left over from this page after Gus’s treatment, I will donate this to another cat parent battling this awful disease.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read our story xxx
