Message from Sollun Acosta, "My father, Pedro Acosta (67 years old) is a man who always cared about others before himself. From 1979 to the present he has been doing missionary work in Paraguay, Argentina, the United States, and Israel. He has been part of the ACLC (American Clergy Leadership Conference) since 2004 to present. He has done workshops, leadership trainings, march and walks for peace, had preached, and gave lectures in schools, churches, parks, rehabilitation centers. He never received financial benefits from his work as a Pastor and Missionary. Pedro and his wife Tania travelled to Argentina from Paraguay to see his sister-in-law because she was diagnosed with cancer and to spent some time with the family during her last days. Unfortunately, she passed away and during the funeral, when Pedro was going to offer some words, he stood up and suddenly he suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke (cardiovascular incident), in which family members caught him in mid-air and was immediately rescued by an emergency unit. Pedro was scheduled to have immediate surgery to drain the brain and check the damage. It was severe and a lot of blood was inside the brain making it difficult to drain, and his body had to absorb it naturally. Pedro was in a coma for 22 days and then he began to wake up slowly. He is currently improving little by little and many resources are required in order to keep recovering due to the many side effects of his stroke. Pedro and Tania are not able to return to their home country Paraguay because of his condition. Through rehabilitation with therapy and medical assistance, he will be able to get better and hopefully gain back all the abilities he had lost. In 5 to 8 months, he will undergo surgery for the placement of a prosthesis because part of his skull was extracted for the drainage and inflammation of the brain. Side effects include loss of speech, right hemiplegia and cognitive deficiencies. We will need financial support for the many expenses caused by his illness: Medication, medical equipment (med-bed, wheelchair, etc..), Nurses, Medical consulting, Physical therapy (and strength training), Occupational therapy, Speech-Language Therapy, Neurological therapy, Psychological counseling, Prosthesis Surgery, and treatment. Currently Tania is dedicated full-time to the care of her husband and myself I'm taking care of my family the best I can but we will definitely need help in order to cover all the medical expenses. I appreciate your kind support and prayers!"
