Hello my name is Tanya and my niece was in a tragic accident yesterday in Telegraph Creek. This is the update from her father, Lance. For further updates or to e-transfer them directly, please send a message or transfer to Christine at [email redacted]

Update July 28 from Christine
Today we heard back from Gugèh zhùu’s Doctors about discharge and follow up; they’ve asked us to stay in Vancouver till August 22nd when they’ll X-ray her hips. The OR is tentatively booked for the 25th to have her pelvis implant removed. 5 weeks (at least) in the city! Oh man. I miss my cabin on the River already. Yakh’aii and Dagoo are flying to Old Crow on Sunday with my Mom for the rest of the summer; I’ll miss them like crazy but I know they’ll be surrounded with family, love, and opportunity to be on the river hunting and doing #gwitchin things. My Sisters and Manda Jo left today. My Papa leaves tomorrow. After Mom and my babies leave Sunday it will be lonesome but Lance and I will put our energy into taking care of our precious baby girl and her recovery. We’ve decided to postpone our wedding that was planned for September 1st. We’re looking at the 15th but it’s just too soon to confirm. For those that have made travel arrangements or booked off time, I apologize. We’ll set a date soon, I want my baby girl to be able to dance at my wedding:) Medū/Mahsi for your continued prayers and support. We can feel the love #smallismighty #bcchildrenshospital #gugèhzhùu

July 26th. Update.
Baby has had successful surgery. She has pins implanted in her hip along with a brace to assist her pelvic recovery. The expected recovery time is 4-6 weeks before they pins can be removed. The pediactric team here at BC Children’s Hospital are confident that everything went as well as expected. They have never completed this type of surgery on someone so small. So they took extra precautions and time. We are all extremely grateful and relieved. We will now focus on her recovery as she will be monitored closely for next couple of days.
she is already smiling and full of life again and showing signs that she is strong.
Thank you to all for the constant calls and prayers. We are forever grateful for all the support we have received. Mahsi choo to all!

Our little “Gugehzhuu” Which means snowbird in our Gwitchin language. Will be with us for a long time to come.

Blood of my blood; Life of my life!

Baby Gugèh zhùu

Yesterday evening our baby girl Gugèh zhùu was run over by a truck at fishcamp. Baby along with Christine were medevaced from Telegraph Creek to Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, where she was seen by a team of specialists. They’ve told me it’s a miracle she isn’t more seriously hurt; after spending the night in emergency where they ruled out any life threatening injuries. Initial scans showed she has a bruised right lung, one broken rib, broken sit bone, and fractured pelvis. All things aside is stable.
We’d like to thank the many people who’ve helped us, including the amazing team at the Telegraph clinic, the doctors who were flown in from Dease Lake by Red Chris’ helicopter, gratitude Chief Carmen McPhee for arranging that, and the Air Ambulance team who were able to get us here as quickly as they did! We’re waiting to hear from the orthopedist specialist to hear if she’ll need surgery. Gugèh zhùu is incredibly strong; we’d appreciate all prayers !

Update. She has three fractured ribs, one broken. Possible fractured sternum. No surgery required. Allowed to eat, and feed now.
I’m off, hitting the highway south. Work my way to Vancouver to be with her. Sending energy for all those that deserve recognition. Mahsi from bottom of my heart. Love ya all. Squeeze your love ones tight.
