Donations for Medical and End of Life Care

As many of you all know, my sister, Darcie Sheley, has been intensive care for the past two days due to a self harming incident that occurred around 2am on December 23rd. We are pleased to finally say the video was taken down earlier today. Advised by the medical staff at Cooperstown Hospital, we have come together as a family to make the best decision for my sister based on her current medical status and prognosis. With heavy hearts we are sad to say that she is up against a battle she will not be able to win. Today she had increased swelling in her brain and decline in her digestive system. She is still completely unresponsive to bedside reflex tests and is anticipated to have no brain function. We have kept our hopes high and hung on to the chance of a miracle. The doctor spoke with my mother and an order is in place to not revive her in an event of a future cardiac arrest, the doctors do not feel she could endure another episode of compressions. We have notified as many close friends and family as we could. We are hoping that life support will carry her through Christmas as we hope to separate her death from the holiday for the sake of her daughters.  Saturday, my family will all gather around and help carry her through to her next stop in life. We can only hope she is at peace and the pain she was experiencing has faded.

We are hoping to give a celebration of life some time after, although it may not be immediately, given the current situation with the pandemic. We are hoping to have her cremated and kept close to home.

Money from this fundraiser will hopefully cover end of life care, supply her daughters with anything they may be in need of, and hopefully allow my mother to take some time off to grieve as she is still recovering from the loss of her own mother less than 3 months ago.

My mother is one of the strongest people I know and she and my father are so appreciative of the support they have received over the past couple of days.

We understand that this is not the ideal time of year to ask for donations, but life had its own plan in place this week. Donate if you are able, no matter how big or small. Also, please feel free to share to reach others who may be in a position to help. The love we have received in the past two days is stronger than we could have imagined. You are all so amazing and I appreciate every comment or message that was sent.

Please understand that Darcie will leave behind 4 young, beautiful daughters who now have to navigate this world without their biggest supporter.

My sister was alot of things, including a loving mother. I will miss you now and always, and so many others will as well. I wish we could turn this all around.

I love you, sis. I hope you rest easy and watch over us all. We'll never stop needing you. ❤
