You may recognize Edward from his champion kickboxing days, his hip hop recordings, or his motivational speeches for youth.
But today, he is battling a rare form of cancer and needs your help.
Edward was diagnosed with sarcoma from a malignant tumor in March 2022. Three months prior, he had noticed a lump in his groin that he thought was related to a kickboxing injury from long ago, so he asked a doctor to check it out. What followed were tests, CAT scans, ultrasounds, a biopsy, and then the bad news: cancer.
On one hand, Edward is grateful. If it wasn’t for his previous injury, he might have ignored the lump until it was too late.
On the other hand, he is struggling to survive. Five weeks of daily, hour-long radiation treatments have left him tired, sick, and barely able to work. He is nervously anticipating a major surgery on July 18 where the tumor will be removed, and his future beyond that is uncertain.
Edward loves his work. His goal is to provide people with opportunities to express their own musical talents. He has four sisters, two brothers, and a bevy of nieces and nephews that he is hoping to inspire with his own life. He offers life coaching to youth so they can live to their potential.
Although hesitant to put his story on GoFundMe, he eventually agreed because he wants to use this situation to encourage others to get medical help if they notice something unusual happening in their bodies. Edward says, “Men sometimes downplay their injuries, and this could have gone unnoticed and taken my life. Pay close attention to your body. Take note if it tells you something’s wrong. In an instant, everything can change. Have the power and knowledge and courage to investigate it.”
Edward’s brother, Moses, says, “We started from humble beginnings. My brother, the youngest boy, has martial arts skills, determination, and a talent for entertainment. We came from a single-parent home, and our mom drove us with passion and purpose to achieve a level of success. After all his achievements, suddenly he’s discovered something that would have probably gone unnoticed if it wasn’t for his prior injury. I’m glad he’s still with us. It’s time for us to come around him and help him out, after all, he’s always helping others.”
Would you be able to join us in helping Edward pay for his health care and living expenses? Our goal is to raise $30,000 so he can maintain his basic standard of living, afford the upcoming surgery, and pay off all the medical bills.
