Donations for Dennis Gray's last wishes with ALS

Donation protected
UPDATE: Dad went on his farewell RV tour on Vancouver island. Got to catch up and say goodbye to old friends and family. A really touching, difficult blessing. Thank you.

We purchased a red light machine to assist in pain and nerve rejuvenation which is supposed to be very supportive.

Dad has decided against the very financially out of reach and not so promising experimental medicine for ALS and opted for Naturopathic options- I’ve adjusted the goal to $28,000 as the IV treatment that will hopefully slow down dads progression is still very expensive it’s a little less and is more hopeful for results. We travel to Port Moody twice a week to get it. In addition to that Dad is scheduled for a feeding tube as it’s becoming difficult to swallow and eat. Thank you again for your ongoing support in giving dad the best while he is here navigating this relentless disease.

Hello, I’m Dennis's daughter, Natasha. This GoFund me page is to support the late-stage easement of my father’s final wishes. ALS has finally been diagnosed after a long road to understanding his declining health, and the financial burden that has come with that. We never really think that the bad news will come so close to the heart, and then it does. My Dad would be the first person to step up and help someone in need. Fix a car, build a thing, answer the call– he is now learning to be the one to ask for help and receive it, after a lifetime of so generously giving of himself. He turns 60 on July 28th. Our family is seeking support to celebrate him with memorable experiences in the coming weeks and be able to create ease, allowing him to come home to the island a few more times before it's no longer possible. Our dear dad, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Dennis needs our help and support. Many of you know that Dennis has not been well for some time, and hasn’t been able to work because of this (for the past two years). After many doctor's office and hospital visits, with multiple referrals to specialists and still no answers, now we have been given the very unfortunate news of his confirmed diagnosis. Dennis has ALS. It has progressed to the point of a severe loss of motor function, breathing issues, and declining speech. The prognosis indicates a loss of ability to walk, eating and breathing will rapidly become more difficult, and Dennis already requires a wheelchair, assisted oxygen, and meal supplements. The ALS clinic/society will provide some of the necessary equipment, but daily life will be drastically changed for Dennis and his family. So we are asking for your help. Help with the rising medical costs including experimental ALS medicine and make his home and life as comfortable as we can during this challenging and unceremoniously short time ahead for him. There are some practical things we’ll need to modify at home to manage the day-to-day and monthly expenses. Dennis has also expressed a couple of simple wishes (such as spending a few days camping in nature with his family) that we hope we can make happen while he still has the physical ability and will to do them. The breakdown of support is as follows: Home modifications (wheelchair ramps, widening doorways, floor transitions, grab bars and mobility supports + labor and materials): $4,500 Medications and supplements x 3 months: $1,000 ALS Specific Medications (we are still exploring) $800-$11,000 per month Professional services x 3 months (naturopath, osteopath): $650-$1,000 Monthly living expenses x 3 months (hydro, transportation, groceries, phone, internet, etc.): $4,000 RV Camping Trip (RV rental, transportation, campsite): $4,000 Boat Day Trip (boat rental/guide): $500 A few trips home to the Island for time with family (ferries from Vancouver to the Island, fuel, food, etc.): $ 1,000 Total support goal: $48,000 Anything raised beyond our goal will continue to support Dennis and his family during this challenging end-of-life experience. There will also be donations made to the ALS Society in the spirit of Dennis's generosity and in gratitude for everything they are doing to support him, his family and others living with ALS. Other things you can contribute to support Dennis’s comfort and wishes: Family photos Grocery gift cards Gas cards Messages of care via this page (for Dennis to browse when he is resourced to do so) Anything your human heart has an intuition to support with It has always taken a community to raise a life, and it takes the same to honor and complete one, especially one that has impacted so many with his kind heart. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. -The Gray Family (and our family friend, Marnie, who supported putting together this write-up for/with us) Pictured above: Dennis with his wife, Anna, their son Aadi, and his two children Natasha and Trevor.
