It began on February 6  with a visit to a retina specialist in Austin.  That dark spot in her line of vision in her left eye was the result of a mini-stroke that could have exploded and caused total blindness.   It didn't, and the doctor felt her vision would return to normal.

However, the next day her vision became worse, and she was admitted to the hospital for the first time.  It was determined that she had major blockages in both of her carotid arteries. 

Shortly after she came home, Debbie developed pneumonia and the flu, which resulted in her second hospital stay of almost a week.  She still faces an operation to open her arteries.  Being a sole proprietor, as is often the case, Debbie's insurance is inadequate for the many medical charges she is facing along with another hospital stay.  While all of this is happening, she is unable to run her business.
