Donations for Dad & Mom

Donation protected
Hi there. I’m Gary’s daughter Krysta. I wanted to start a gofundme for Dad & Mom to try and help alleviate some of the financial burdens that come along with medical emergencies.
Dad had an acute MCA stroke that affected the right side of his brain back on April 3rd. He had an emergency thrombectomy done to remove the clot and restore blood & oxygen back to his brain. He spent several days in the ICU and then a few on the neuro floor in the hospital. Dad was moved to a rehab in New Braunfles where he is at currently. He has been making a lot of progress with the physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapy while here but they are discharging him soon to go to an assisted skilled nursing and rehab facility. His PT won’t be as frequent and a lot of it will be up to dad to continue. He has some mobility in his left lower leg and has just started having muscle movement in his left forearm. He’s also been able to make transitions from bed to wheelchair and back to the bed with what they call MAX 2 assistance but his mobility is still very limited. He will have to use a wheelchair when he comes home, that’s inevitable unfortunately. That’s part of the reason my parents are in need of a go fund me. There is a list of things that are desperately needed at the house that insurance won’t cover before dad gets there.
We need to have a wheelchair ramp built. Moms church family has graciously offered to build the ramp but Mom & Dad are needing to provide the materials. That’s expensive. My parents bedroom is also needing some remodels to accommodate for Dads power chair. As it stands right now the door to their bedroom is too narrow and he won’t be able to make it through to get in their room. We are also going to need to put in handlebars for the bathroom, shower, and their bedroom. Dad is also going to need quite a few things to aide him in day to day life. Things to help get dressed, getting in and out of a car, up and down from the bed, and for when he (hopefully) starts walking again. There are a few things insurance will cover but a lot of it they won’t.
With having the stroke my dad has been unable to work. Being the sole provider for our household this has taken a huge toll on my parents finances. There is also a limited amount that I am able to do to help financially because I am now the caregiver for mom and can’t maintain a normal 9-5 because I’m needed here with her. Troy has also had to stop working temporarily to help take care of our kids so I’m able to be with Mom & Dad. Once Dad comes home I will also be helping with his in home care just like I did with mom after her accident. We aren’t sure as of now when dad is going to be able to return to work. His job is dependent on the use of both of his hands since he works remotely from home on his computer.
My parents aren’t even aware that I’m doing this for them. They are quick to offer help but reluctant to receive it. Honestly I think Dad would be a little peeved if he knew I was doing this for them. Obviously they are going to know once I post but I will deal with the consequences then. Can’t really ground me or take my phone away anymore so I think I will be fine.
Anything would be helpful at this point even if it’s just $1. I know a lot of people have asked how they can help and like I said my parents would never ask but I’m here asking for them. They need help. We need help.
Thank you so very much!!! You have no idea how much our family appreciates everything everyone has done. The cards, the gifts, the donations have truly made a world of difference. We love you all!
