On April 16th 2020, my husband Clifton Owen suffered two ischemic strokes and was hospitalized for 6 days. He was discharged home, but it is believed that his disability may be permanent. He may regain partial function, but full recovery is unlikely due to the location of the strokes. Due to his double vision and balance issues, he is required to use a mobility device (walker or cane) at all times. In order to facilitate free movement within our home, we are required to modify the bathroom and shower area to make it ADA compliant. As it stands, the bathroom has many features common in a standard bathroom like steps and entries designed for a person standing upright without assistance. Without these modifications, he will be unable to comfortably and safely use things that most people take for granted, such as the shower and the toilet. Any funds received will be used to modify the shower to add a walk in entry and a wide enough doorway for him to get through with his walker. We also plan to add grab bars throughout the bathroom to allow him to have a steady place to grab onto for balance and assistance with standing. Due to his condition, his return to work is unlikely and with COVID-19, our three income household has been reduced to one. Any help would be appreciated in our time of need. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
