Ben was in a terrible motorcycle accident and has a very long recovery. Both Ben and his wife, Emily, are recent grads and just moved across the country to start new jobs. These funds are being raised to go towards medical bills, PT, food, gas, etc…
From Emily:
September 5th, Ben went out for a quick ride on his motorcycle. 2 hours later, I started to worry because he still wasn't home. He wouldn't answer his phone no matter how much I called. After a while, I involved his parents in a desperate search to find him. We tried hospitals and highway patrol--no luck. By 4am, I officially filed a missing person report. By 4:30am, I received a call that he was in the ICU. He was hit by a car and thrown 30 feet off his bike. Although he was wearing protective gear, he was in critical condition when they found him. Right now he is currently stable, but they had to do some surgeries on him right away. He no longer has a spleen and is using breathing tubes to help support his lungs. He's not that scraped up externally, but the worst parts are a fracture at the base of his skull and some vertebrae at the top of his spine that are out of alignment. When I got to the ER to see him, he could twitch his hands-- not much movement in the toes. They did mention he was moving his toes earlier in the night though, so they think things will be better once the spinal vertebrae are back in alignment.
For now, I'll be staying at the hospital with him to monitor his condition.
