Hello, all! This has been a very hard week for our household, and Daniel and I may be in a bit of a bind
Sadly, our dog, Miss Vin, needed emergency surgery on 8/2/2022 - as she randomly developed a GI obstruction.
The silver lining is that we could cover the low-end estimate of her surgery so they can actually do the procedure. This was critical because the obstruction was blocking her stomach from emptying into her intestines, and there was something that was dangling into her duodenum, which was causing the rest of her intestines to bunch up… :(
Vin had been on the up and up and suddenly took a startling turn. Sunday night (8/7/2022), as Daniel and I gave her fresh gauze and were tucking her in, she threw up twice (clear with red mixed throughout) Suddenly her wound was gushing bright reddish liquid (not fresh blood, as it was too watery) that completely soaked the gauze in less than 30 seconds and was spilling onto the towels.
We then rushed back to WVRC, and waited for a verdict as to what is going on.
We heard from the ER doc that our worst fears were realized, and she was septic. The doc said that it must have happened the day prior, and we were doing everything right. It was most likely bruising in the intestine from the long obstruction that suddenly ruptured. The doc says that she has as favorable a prognosis as we could hope for, as she doesn't appear to have bacteria in her blood yet. They started her on antibiotics and stabilized her as we scrambled to figure out our options.
*Thank you to our dear friends who helped us come up with the 7,500 deposit last night to cover the surgery since they need to operate again and will most likely need to remove part of her intestines.*
We then got word that she made it through the surgery but is in critical condition. (8/8/2022)
They couldn't find the source of the leak, so they reopened and reclosed the stomach incision and removed about a foot of the intestine to be safe.
The doc thinks the stomach was actually leaking, which is a good and bad thing. Less chance of nasty bacteria getting everywhere, but it might explain why everything looked so angry if there was acid getting out...
She is now recovering, getting an infusion, has a feeding tube for nutrients, and has a drain tube ❤️ WVRC has been fantastic throughout this whole crisis and has worked really hard to give her the best care possible.
Please be praying that her inflammation stays under control, as that will be her biggest battle right now. She can't get steroids because she has been septic but needs to get her swelling down.
I feel weird having to ask for help, but please consider donating only if you can to help cover the continued cost of Vin's care. ❤️ please feel free to share this go fund me as well ❤️
