Donation for Shawn Rentz

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Shawn Lyle Rentz on August 6, 2025 at the age of 31. He was born on March 4, 1994 in Cortez, CO. He was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother who touched the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Merlita, and children, Alayna Knowlden, Shawn Rentz Jr., Shane Rentz, and Astrid Rentz. Shawn was Ma’ii deeshgiizhnii (Coyote Pass), born for Bit’ahnii (Within His Cover). His maternal grandfather’s clan is Tóaheedlíínii (Water Flows Together) and his paternal grandfather’s clan is Naakai Dine’é (Mexican People). His parents are Sandra Tsosie of Del Muerto, AZ and Alvin Rentz of Aneth, UT.

Shawn loved to grill, go fishing, and enjoyed playing disc golf and bowling. When he set his mind on something, there was no turning back. With this mindset, he was able to purchase a home for his children in 2018 and made many memories there with his family. His dream was to restore old vehicles and to eventually move out of the city and into the countryside.

Shawn was a local pipefitter journeyman for Local 140 in Salt Lake City, UT and has been in the trade since he was 18 years old. He was in Reno, NV for work when he passed away.

We are reaching out to our family and friends for help with the unexpected costs of funeral expenses. The unforeseen loss has created a significant financial burden during this difficult time. We want to give Shawn the beautiful and respectful farewell he deserves, but we need your help. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in easing the financial strain and allowing us to focus on grieving and honoring Shawn’s memory. The funds raised will go towards funeral costs to include cremation, transportation, and memorial arrangements.
