Dear friends, family, and community.
Myself and Omar's girlfriend Jess are reaching out to share the story of my incredible friend Omar, who is facing a challenging battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), a form of blood cancer.
We have been good friends since our university days and is truly an incredible person. Omar is kind, caring and loves to be around people. His vibrant and outgoing energy is infectious and he always knows how to see the good in things. He's always finding joy in life and spending time with friends, camping, hiking and dancing (hip hop, salsa and bachata). His warmth and positivity brighten every moment he shares with others.
As he embarks on a two-year treatment protocol called the ALL-06 Protocol, he will receive multiple blocks of chemotherapy. Completing the chemotherapy the out of pocket costs are upwards from $30,000.
Omar faces additional challenges as a non-resident who is not entitled to Medicare benefits. His visa is set to expire in May 2025, and while he has applied for permanent residency, if he receives an invitation, he will need to hire a lawyer, costing $10,000 to plead his case to stay in Australia and continue his treatment. He will also need to pay $6,000 for the permanent residency once it has been granted.
The road ahead is uncertain, and the costs for medications, treatments, legal fees and permanent residency fees are significant, with many of the medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Omar has always been there for others, bringing light and laughter into our lives. Now, it’s our turn to rally around him. Your support can make a real difference, allowing him to focus on his health and his future here with us.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated. Let’s help Omar get the care and legal support he needs to reclaim his adventurous spirit and continue sharing his kindness with the world.
Thank you for your support!
With gratitude,
Shahim and Jess xx
