Help Winston Walk Again
Hi, I’m Winston’s mom, Shyann.
Winston was recently diagnosed with early-stage IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) — a spinal condition that causes the discs between vertebrae to press on the spinal cord. This can lead to severe pain, weakness, and even paralysis, especially in dachshunds like him.
For Winston, not one but two discs were displaced, leaving his back legs nearly paralyzed. The vets at Boreal Veterinary Centre said he urgently needed back surgery — without it, he wouldn’t be able to walk or go to the bathroom on his own again.
When I heard the surgery would cost around $10,000, my heart dropped. Winston is only 7 years old, with so much life and love still ahead of him. He’s been my emotional support dog and constant companion through my own health battles, including Lupus and a brain cancer diagnosis in 2021. He’s seen me through every struggle — now it’s my turn to fight for him.
On October 31st, Winston underwent emergency surgery, and thankfully, his surgeon called just after midnight to say it went well. He’s now recovering in the ICU, surrounded by the amazing staff at Boreal.
I don’t usually ask for help, but between my medical expenses and limited income, this surgery has been a heavy financial burden. Any donation — big or small — would mean the world and go directly toward Winston’s surgery and recovery care. Even sharing his story helps more than you know.
Winston has always been fearless, playful, and full of life — the dog who reminds me every day that there’s still warmth and joy in the world. I made him a promise to give him the best life possible, and with your help, I’ll be able to keep that promise.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting Winston’s recovery.
With love and gratitude,
Shyann & Winston
