Hello,
My name is Suren. I am 24 and was born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia. I came to New York at the age of 20 with the goal to study and build a future as a business professional. Even though I went through a lot of cultural and environmental hardships, I was still able to graduate from Hunter College with a GPA of 3.6, and I was included on the Dean's List twice, and finished my degree within the top 15% of the class.
However, I wouldn't be able to accomplish any of this if it weren’t for my family. I have always imagined and to a certain extent still imagine my family as my 4 powers and columns that are always around me - standing as my Father, Mother, younger sister and myself. We are a family who have always been there for each other – whether it be pain or happiness, loss or achievements, we have always stood up for each other and never letting anyone alone during hard times.
Spending almost 3 years away from my family was one of the hardest times for my family and myself. I was finally happy when we were about to get together last year and bring our 4 strengths together again in one place. I thought I had a complete family portrait again. My family came, but my wish will forever remain unaccomplished...
At this point, life is about to collapse one of these 4 columns of mine - my beautiful Mother, of 45 became ill. Last year, on May 24, 2018 after having a surgery of a total hysterectomy, my Mother was diagnosed with Stage IV leiomyosarcoma, a very rare and aggressive type of cancer that is still impossible to treat in full.
After having a long and hard year of chemotherapies and following difficulties, considering my Mother's very weak health condition, the doctors found that no further treatment will help, and my Mother's passing is a matter of few days now.
I was so happy when my parents moved to New York, but almost immediately, I had to support my family financially, because my Father had to quit his job to constantly take care of my Mother during the past year. I became the primary breadwinner of the family and I worked 10 hours a day with almost no weekends to provide my family and still cover my sister's tuition for school.
Today, I am calling for help to cover my Mother's funeral and further associated expenses. Every single commitment of yours will bring its unique contribution and matter significantly to my family to bring my Mother to her resting place.
Thank you.
Cordially,
Suren Khachatryan
