A new beginning unexpectedly turned tragic.

I wish this was a story about the joy of Chica running around the new house she was to enjoy with her mama, Kari, in a new location away from their long-time home.

Instead, 8 days into living in their new home an unprovoked dog attack upon Chica by a larger breed dog residing on the property turned the adventure of a lifetime into a nightmare for Kari.

Chica was seriously injured and traumatized.

She ended up with puncture wounds across her head, neck, and throat where the bigger dog grabbed her requiring nearly a dozen stitches. She was shaken so hard and dropped it broke her femur requiring extensive surgery with pins and rods.

With no way to rectify staying on the property to keep Chica out of harm's way, Kari packed up and has had to find temporary housing as she cares for Chica and her recovery from this initial surgery.

Slowly Chica is gaining progress in what will be her ongoing healing journey.

Chica is well-loved by many and while she is an older dog the veterinarian testing concluded Chica is strong and healthy for a dog of her age.

This led Kari to make the decision to move forward with the corrective surgery based on the doctor's recommendations Chica could survive the serious injuries she had endured. However, the unexpected expense was well beyond anything Kari could manage after the new move.

Between emergency vet visits and the surgery, medications, and follow-up visits with the post-op the $10,000+ bill for all the immediate needs and ongoing care has been a struggle for Kari.

Traumatized, Kari is still in shock by these events and the need to find another home.

As she looks for a new living situation I have offered to set up a Go Fund Me page to help offset the high cost of veterinary care she has had to cover for Chica on her own.
